The vision of fellowship and unity impacts the prayers and lingers upon the lips of all true Bible-believing Christians worldwide. The lack of fellowship among Apostolic believers has been a catalyst for too long. Many saints have prayed, fasted, desired and even sung about the unity in the Body of Christ. Yet, in these latter days, the enemy of our souls is continuing to cause division. Efforts have been made to unite Apostolic believers, but have not endured for long.

Responding to a vision of unity that God place upon his heart, Elder Lowell Collins set about the business of organizing a fellowship conference that would embrace Apostolic brethren worldwide.    

With much sacrifice and laboring of love by many of the saints from different assemblies in several states and abroad, the 1st International General Assembly (IGA) of Apostolic Believers Fellowship Conference was held on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17, 1997 in Princess Anne, Maryland! There were delegates present from Detroit, Michigan; Columbia, South Carolina; Lauderdale Lakes, Florida; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Miami, Florida; Mt. Vernon, New York; Brooklyn, New York; Ludwigshafen, Germany; Oslo, Norway. There were almost 300 people present at the closing service. What a blessing!

During the 2nd IGA Fellowship Conference an Executive Board was formed. The Pastors present emphasized a desire to see God’s people unite in fellowship and committed to supporting this effort. The following officers were recommended and agreed upon by the General Board (which consists of all pastors). 

  • Elder Lowell Collins, General Chairman;

  • Bishop Mike Hernandez, Asst. General Chairman;

  • Bishop Thurman Hayes, General Secretary; and,

  • Bishop J. A. Deas, General Treasurer.

An Administrative Committee was also appointed – Sister Tivola Cannon, Sister Diane Gillie, Sister Christy Gorayeb, Sister Diannia Hayes and Sister Robin Harmon.

The service format for each conference has been consistent beginning with early Morning Prayer at 7:30 followed by a break for a time of fellowship; at 10:00 a.m. We reconvene for Morning Glory at which time the attendees have a chance to give testimonies of the wondrous work of God in their life and words of exhortation are given. Afterwards, we take time to refresh and have lunch, returning at 1:30 for dynamic workshops for all age groups. After an evening break to refresh and have dinner, we convene at 7:30 p.m. for Evening Manna. 

The conference highlights have been:

  • International Flag March (children participants 12 and younger)
  • Midnight Cry Service on Friday
  • “100 Women in White”

The representation has grown through the years with delegates from Alabama, California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia; and, internationally from Canada, Germany, Jamaica, Norway, Africa, and Romania. Though we are growing spiritually, we know there is much more in store for us as we obtain a higher level in Christ. As we continue in worship of our awesome God, we do so with the expectation that we will experience awesome victories and will draw others into this united body.

As an Apostolic Believer, your prayers, attendance and financial support of the Fellowship Conference is appreciated. What a difference we can make in this world of wickedness, if we would become the united body that God prayed that we would be? This press does not end with the Conference but continues throughout the year. Do your part and make a difference…it’s all to the glory and honor of God!

As stated at the end of the 1st Fellowship Conference twenty-two years ago, the vision was given to one man but the success is because of the dedication of many saints with God as the focus. As Pastor Collins wrote in 1997 in The Vision For A People Of The Name, “the answer is becoming increasingly clear, true fellowship comes to those who talk less about it and more about ‘Him’. Our success or failure in this continuous effort will depend upon our ability to portray Christ in word and deed, nothing more, nothing less!”
